Coffeehouse Culture

The nickname «Kaffeesachsen» (engl. coffee Saxons) did not come about by chance. Leipzig is home to one of Europe's oldest coffee houses, the «Zum Arabischen Coffe Baum». This coffeehouse culture also influenced Johann Sebastian Bach, who worked here for 27 years and wrote his Coffee Cantata, among other works. At the Coffee Festival in Leipzig, visitors can enjoy coffee roasted by various local roasters.

«Klassik ‹airleben›»

When summer begins, music lovers flock to Rosental: every June, the world-famous Gewandhaus Orchestra plays outdoors at «Klassik ‹airleben›». Thousands of visitors spread their picnic blankets in the park and enjoy a concert that is both spectacular and relaxed.

The special combination of top-class music, summer evening atmosphere and communal flair makes the event unique. Even those who are not usually enthusiastic about classical music quickly get carried away here.

The best thing about it: admission is free – for Leipzig residents and visitors to the city alike.

Viewpoint hill with cult status

The Fockeberg, Leipzig's second highest elevation, rises up in the Südvorstadt district. What is now a popular meeting place with spectacular views over the city's rooftops was originally created as a rubble heap from the ruins of the Second World War.

Especially in the evening hours, many Leipzig residents and visitors are drawn here to chat, barbecue or simply enjoy the view. The Fockeberg is thus both a family meeting place and a trendy spot for night owls.
