No matter: Luigi, the owner, runs this library with an enthusiasm and dedication that is hard to find these days.

Venetians like to sit at the bar of a bacaro and enjoy their cichetti - these typical Venetian amuse-bouches - usually accompanied by an ombra, a small glass of wine. Follow in the footsteps of Brunetti, the famous detective from Donna Leon's novels, and stop off at the Cantina do Mori near Rialto. In this wine bar, where old copper pans still hang from the ceiling, the character from the novel stops off from time to time on his way home and treats himself to delicacies such as these small sandwiches topped with cod or sardines.

The Squero San Trovaso is one of the last remaining gondola construction and repair workshops in Venice. The workshop was founded in the 17th century and cannot be visited. But from Quai Nani, just opposite, you can watch the work in progress outside. Did you know that a gondola is made from around ten different types of wood? The famous iron consists of six teeth, representing the six districts of Venice; its curved part is said to symbolize the Doge's cap.
